C4 in NYC! Battles, Showcases and Labels
Mannn, it’s been a crazy week for me. To make the story short, I have been in New York for the last 4 days on business. The first part of the trip was to compete in Dynamic Producer ( as advertised on my blog). As a prize for winning the MTL “Art of producing” beat battle, Dynamic Producers invited to compete in their event. I entered in 2 categories and showcased my work for some of the best ears in the industry. I placed in both events, landing 3rd in the “It’s a Hit” competition and almost taking home the final beat battle, finishing 2nd after 3 rounds. The goal was to show people what I do and I believe that it worked out for me. Judges in attendance represented major labels such as Bad Boy, Def Jam, Shady Records and more. Aside from the competition, there were also label meets where I met many people who could potentially help me place my music or pick up some of the artists that i work for.
I also showcased some of the work I’ve been pitching for artists such as Drake and more. The highlight of the beat battle was a remake that I made of the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” theme which had many labels interested.
The 2nd part of the trip was meeting with Neo Da Matrix (Electric Feel Management/Roc-A-Fella Records). He is one cool dude. What a night.
Here’s how it went down:
1 PM: Show up at Studio but nobody there
1:30 PM: Bump into Bruck Up ( Famous Coreographer,New single featuring Shaggy, also the guy with the bleached hair in Busta’s “Put your hands where my eyes can see”) in the elevator.
2 PM: Lets us into the studio
and gives us some education on the biz, what he’s working for and what he looking for. Neo’s phone not anwsering. His manager has no clue where he is.
3 PM: We go for lunch, only to discover that our car has been towed.
5PM: Finally get the car, pay the rudest people in the world keeping it captive and head back to the studio.
6 PM: Still no word from Neo. Manager is there. Not really sure what is going on at this point. People just saying they saw him the night before but still no word from him. We start recording with Bruck up. Track is Fire..Lay low people..
9 pm: Get a call from Neo. He was in the hospital and went into cardiac arrest. Some bitch poisoned his drink and his heart was racing. He tells me he ain’t feeling too good and I tell him it’s all good, I really think that his health is more important then playing him beats. Neo says “nah man, fuck it, i’m coming down, give me an hour”.
10 PM: Neo shows up at the studio feeling like a Zombie. I’m incredibly thankful and I play him some beats which he was feeling. Big smilke when I play the Fresh prince one.
11 PM: RockWilder walks in randomly. Wasn’t sure if it was Zeus from Friday at first but then realized it was the famous producer. Honored that he’d sit in.
We just vibing out, listening to tracks or what not. These other guys putting us up on some new beat machine coming out. I gotta e-mail em and get a free one.
1 AM: With 1 track fully recorded, we call it a night.
The best thing is that Neo was just a genuine dude. We talked about everything from beats, to real life, our history, goals and even relationships. He told me that I gotta come to NYC more like he first did when he moved from Philly. “Sleep on the couch and work here over the weekends whenever you want”.
You bet your fucking ass I will.
Whatever it is that keeps me breathing, trying, grinding and pursuing my dream, I thank you. It can all be gone in a New York minute.
I want to thank everyone who supports me, from friends and family, to fellow producers, promoters, and haters. I love you all.
If it took me this long to get here, you better believe i’m not stopping anytime soon.
Be easy everyone and do what you love to do.

Keep it up, bro. You have our support through the thick and the thin!
Sounds like you had fun… keep grinding my dude!
I’ll let you finish but I just gotta say that Jazzy Jeff has the best Fresh Prince of Bel-Air beat of all time… sorry deeds! L0L
